Tip 1: Find a good space
One mistake people make all too often is working in their kitchen or living room. If you plan to work from home full-time, or even partially throughout the week, you need a dedicated space. Clutter naturally fills an office, through paperwork, mugs, lunch and all sorts, so you need space, and a lot of it!
If you don’t have a spare room, you may consider an outdoor shed, which is a trend many people are taking on as we move towards a more flexible work from home vibe; a box room could still work, but just make sure you have a space that is just for you and your office.
Tip 2: Drawers are not a nice-to-have, they’re a necessity!
Notepads, pens, the occasional bit of post that you haven’t opened yet, it all lives in the drawer. Yes, this is something you’ll need to declutter every so often, but it’s better than it living on your desk! Particularly if you’re in a job which requires paperwork, drawers are essential.
Having an organised drawer is perfect too, and you can find separators easily online to help organise your office supplies, but when it comes to home office organisation ideas, a good set of drawers should be at the top of your list!

You’ll be less likely to forget things, and you can also add prompts to keep your office neat — whether that is a reminder to empty the bin, clear out your drawers or hoover.
Tip 4: Think about space
Be realistic when you’re thinking about how much space you need in your home office. As you adapt to working from home, you might find you need more than you had ever planned. You might want to try out a second screen, and once that happens, it’s hard to go back — so make sure you have enough space for that without adding unnecessary clutter to a small desk.
